DAYTON - Dayton High's Future Business Leaders of America club sent 26 students to the Southeast Regional Winter Business Conference in Kennewick on February 12. DAYTON - Things seem to be going fairly well at Columbia County Senior Center. We were certainly surprised last week when we came for lunch to find there was a power outage. DAYTON - The Blue Mountain Station Co-op Market hosted its third weekly Indoor Market on Saturday and attracted an enthusiastic group of shoppers. The market is held in the center community section of the Port of Columbia's new artisan food center. DAYTON - The Columbia County Fair Board will hold a Kickoff Dinner and Auction on April 26 in the Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. The event will include live and silent auctions and music by Rich and Nancy Monacelli. DAYTON - In a special Monday meeting this week, the Columbia County Board of Commissioners approved a measure to allow emergency repairs to the ceiling and carpet in the courtroom of the Columbia County Courthouse, after accidental damage caused by a contractor. DAYTON - Three public hearings will be held next week to allow public input on a new Cooperative Park Master Plan for Columbia County. The plan is a joint effort of Columbia County, the City of Dayton and the Port of Columbia. The City will hold its hearing on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall board room. DAYTON - The Dayton City Council on Monday voted to reject a proposed ordinance to establish a special events permit for Dayton. The 6-1 decision came after the council heard several public comments in opposition to the measure and after considerable debate among council members. DAYTON - As a young man living near San Francisco in the 1960s, Bill Freeman worked as a machinist and trained horses on the side. In 1965, he got a job helping build Little Goose Dam. He lived in Dayton for a year and continued to train horses on the side - this time, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. DAYTON - The Dayton Development Task Force announced that it has received $64,8xx in December through its newly implemented B&O tax incentive program. The money will be used to for a variety of projects and programs in Downtown Dayton.
