LaDeana Kay Hermanns Pettichord

August 18,1934 – October 14, 2026

LaDeana Kay Hermanns Pettichord (Kay) passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on August 18, 1934, in Spokane, WA to Vida Hargett and Edward Hermanns. She grew up in the Waitsburg/Prescott area surrounded by a large, extended family – lots of grandpas and grandmas - and eventually 3 siblings, Ernie, Charlotte and Dee. Her school years were spent in the Waitsburg schools and she graduated from Wait-Hi in 1952. While in school Kay played the saxophone in the marching band, was crowned May Queen, and loved making mischief with her friends!

On February 28, 1953, Kay married her high school sweetheart, Richard Pettichord. Together they were blessed with 5 children, Ricky, Cindy (Mike), Tim (Zoeann), Jamie (Casey) and Nancy (Chet). They were also blessed with 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was known as Auntie Kay to numerous nieces and nephews. Kay lost her son, Ricky in 1956, husband, Richard in 1995 and daughter-in-law, Zoeann in 2023. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them.

Throughout her life Kay held many jobs, starting in the 5th grade when she washed/put away hair curlers for her beautician/neighbor. She baby-sat, worked as timekeeper for the Green Giant cannery for many years and after Richard passed away became the local Avon lady. No matter what Kay was doing she worked hard and had a wonderful attitude. We will all miss her example!

There will be a graveside prayer and dedication at 11:OO a.m. on Saturday, October 24th at the Waitsburg Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at noon at the Waitsburg Christian Church. The service will also be livestreamed on the church's FB page.
