DAYTON-In 2011, as Lisa Naylor and her husband Paul were planning to celebrate her retirement after 30 years of service with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The disease is progressive, with only two treatment options: dialysis or a kidney transplant.
A strong community of friends, family, and neighbors have shared her story and helped look for a living donor. Many offered to donate. However, due to a rare blood type and high antigen score, she needed to find that one-in-a-million match.
Dialysis occured every evening to maintain her failing kidney health as she waited for a donor. Everyday life, including travel, required extensive planning.
Last Thursday, Naylor received the news that a compatible kidney had been found. She flew to Arizona on Friday and received the transplant on Saturday.
She is in recovery and looking forward to regaining the energy to continue her community service, projects, and activities that make her happy.
