Twenty-two Waitsburg Middle School eighth graders were promoted to high school freshmen in a ceremony on Monday, June 8, in the high school auditorium.
Class President Kaitlyn Paul led the guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. Waitsburg Principal Joe Wirtzberger welcomed the friends, family, and teachers gathered to celebrate the students' promotion.
Middle School Teacher Jessica Griffith gave an inspiring speech, followed by speeches from students Laila Long, Ollivyr Dahlby, and Kaitlynn Paul.
Superintendent Wirtzberger presented certificates to the students. He presented Best Attendance Awards to Tanna Ray and Audrey Kiefel. Holley Jensen received the Excellence Award, and Audrey Kiefel was named Athlete of the Year.
Math teacher Donovan Romero presented Flynn Richardson with the Math Student of the Year Award. English Language Arts teacher Jessica Griffith presented the ELA Student of the Year award to Ollivyr Dahlby. Science teacher Carrisa Hodges named Kaitlyn Paul as the Science Student of the Year, and history teacher Westin Wallace named Laila Long as the History Student of the Year.
