Kenney Qualifies for State Track
Waitsburg Track Team athlete, Teegan Kenney, earned a place at the 1B District 6 Championships after qualifying in all four of his events at the district qualifier on Tuesday, May 12, in Pomeroy.
In Pomeroy, Kenney set personal best jumps in two of his events. Three Waitsburg girls set personal best records to also advance to the district championships, which will be held at Valley Christian School on May 20-22.
Twelve teams competed, and eight advanced to compete in the District 6 championships. Boys will need to place in the top five, and girls in the top six, to move on to the State Championships on May 28-30 in Yakima.

Addison Crenshaw: 6th in discus (80' 7" PB)
Emerson Underwood: 7th discus (79' 10" PB)
Olivia Kiefel: Tied for 5th in long jump (13' 6.75" PB)
Benevides qualifies for state golf
On Monday, May 4, the Waitsburg High School golf team competed at the sub-district tournament at Sage Hills-Warden.
"The boys did great," said Coach Caris Cole. "Carter Barron ended with a 114, Blake Benevides got a 99, Cody Coulston got a 103, and Jake Lynch got a 104. Benevides, Coulston, and Lynch will move on to districts on Tuesday, the 12th," said Cole.
At the district competition at Liberty Lake, Benevides shot 90, Coulston 91, and Lynch 108. Benevides' combined sub-district and district scores have qualified him to compete at the 2026 State Championships to be held in Liberty Lake on May 19-20.
