District Court Judge to Retire; Hawkins will Seek Full-Time Position

WALLA WALLA COUNTY - Presiding Walla Walla District Court Judge Kristian Hedine, who has served as the full-time District Court judge since December 2014, has announced that he will retire effective December 31, 2026.

"It has been my distinct honor to serve our community," said Judge Hedine. "I am proud of the work we have accomplished and am very grateful for the trust placed in me by the citizens of Walla Walla County over the years."

Part-time District Court Judge Jared Hawkins announced that he will run for the full-time position in this year's election.

"I appreciate Judge Hedine's years of service and leadership," said Judge Hawkins. "I look forward to continuing the important work of the court in a full-time capacity."

Hedine, who is a member and current Chair of the Washington Commission on Judicial Conduct, noted he cannot endorse judicial candidates.  However, he said that through their four years serving together, he has observed Hawkins' work on the bench.

"Judge Hawkins has demonstrated sound judgment, professionalism, and a deep commitment to the fair administration of justice," Hedine said.
