WASHINGTON, DC - Question: Do 80% of Americans support the SAVE America Act, as cited by proponents of the bill?
Answer: No. According to the CBS News-YouGov poll cited, 80% of Americans favor requiring a valid photo ID to vote.
In the same poll, only 28% supported the SAVE America Act, while 31% opposed it and 41% were not sure.
The CBS poll showed a wide divide among parties over voting security. Asked about voter fraud in the U.S, 54% of Republicans verses 14% of Democrats said it is widespread.
Additionally, Democrats and Republicans differ on what they view as the biggest problem with the U.S. voting system. The poll showed a majority of Republicans were concerned about ineligible people casting votes, while Democrats were concerned about eligible voters being prevented from voting.
The CBS News poll also asked respondents about their knowledge of the SAVE America Act. Only 15% said they knew a lot of specifics about the act, and 35% did not know what was in it.
