Tompkins to Run for Walla Walla County Auditor

WALLA WALLA - Former Walla Walla County Commissioner and local business owner Greg Tompkins announced he is running as an Independent for the Walla Walla County Auditor position.

"I have chosen to run as an Independent for this position as there are no political decisions made by the County Auditor," said Thompkins.

The county auditor is an elected position and will be on the general election ballot in 2026.

Currently, the position is held by Sheryl Park, who has also registered as a candidate.

After Karen Martin, a Republican, retired at the end of 2025, Park was selected by the County Commissioners after being recommended by the Walla Walla County Republicans to complete the term.

Tompkin's campaign highlights his knowledge of county governance, having served 16 years as a county commissioner. He and the board were responsible for establishing and managing the county budget.

As the owner of Tompkins Appliance LLC, he has 40 years of experience managing the increasing challenges facing small business owners. Experience that his supporters say would position him to manage the financial and administrative responsibilities of the County Auditor's office effectively.

His professional and civic work has provided him with an in-depth understanding of how critical the Auditor's Office is to the overall operations of county government.

The County Auditor is responsible for elections and voter registration, public records, vehicle and vessel licensing, and county financial services.

In his press release, Tompkins emphasized working collaboratively with officials, modernizing office processes, increasing accessibility, and ensuring cost-effectiveness, with a strong commitment to integrity and transparency.

Tomkins and Park have registered their campaigns with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission for the November 3, 2026, General Election.
