DAYTON-The regular meeting of the Columbia County Parks and Recreation Pool District was held on February 26 at 5 p.m. Topics of discussion included fundraising opportunities. The district recently learned that it did not receive the $600,000 Capital Campaign legislative grant it applied for.
There are three other grants in process. The district will continue to pursue fundraising opportunities and grants needed to build the pool.
In May, the district will hold a yard sale to benefit the pool during Dayton Days weekend. Community support for the sale indicates it should be a big success. Please contact Terri Hessler at (509) 629-1573 if you have donations of clean useable items.
During the Alumni Weekend in July, the district will host a "Duck in a Truck" fundraiser. Pre-purchased, numbered plastic ducks floating in a McKinley belly dump truck will be let loose over a target painted on Dayton's Main Street. There will be cash prizes. Tickets will be on sale beginning on April 1 at the Chamber Office and with Parks and Recreation Pool Commissioners. They will also be available at tables on Main Street during Dayton Days, All Wheels Weekend, and before the parade starts on Alumni Weekend. Ducks will be dumped at the end of that parade. Ducks are $5 each or 5 for $20. All costs associated with the Duck Derby are funded by "Friends of the Pool" More details will be available at http://www.daytonpublicpool.com.
