Lady Cardinals Beat Redhawks

The Waitsburg Lady Cardinal middle school basketball team beat the Touchet Redhawks in two games at Touchet on Wednesday, February 18.

In the first game, the Cardinals saw sixth-grader Oaklee Adams have an outstanding performance, leading the team with 11 rebounds, 4 steals, and 8 points.  Lillian Carpenter scored nine points, and Jaylynn Gleason scored four points. Emma Langford scored six, rebounded three, and had two steals. Shylo Hedges and Peyton Childers scored two points each, and Adalin Acevedo scored two points and rebounded seven in the 33-6 win.

Waitsburg let an early lead slip in the second game of the evening and were behind 16-14 at halftime.  In the third quarter, Waitsburg exploded for 14 points, six points by Gleason, and held Touchet to four points.  The Cardinals won 38-26 and now have a 6-1 record.

Ryleigh Fabian and Gleason scored nine points each. Fabian added five steals and three assists. Birthday girl, Kaitlyn Paul, scored eight points and rebounded six. Audrey Kiefel scored four and rebounded five.  Carpenter, Reagan Fabian, Childers, and Laila Long scored two points each.

"Playing two games gave all members of the team playing time. Our point guards saw the court and distributed the ball so every player scored at least two points tonight," said Coach Karen Huwe.
