DAYTON — The Washington State premiere of “Doc Franklin Escapes Cambridge (An Artificial IntelliGent’s Adventure)” by Barbara Pease Weber will be performed live from January 30 to February 1.
Bev Startin directs an all-local cast in this hilarious comedy about a soon-to-retire university professor, Dr. Otis Franklin, who escapes the doldrums of academia by accompanying his brilliant doctoral candidate, Lizzie, to a scientific symposium in Atlantic City.
On their way to the conference, Doc and Lizzie stop to visit Lizzie’s nana, Gladys. Later that night, Gladys and her besties quickly realize that there are some rather peculiar things about Lizzie’s professor, not the least of which are Doc Franklin’s untamed table manners and distressing, vocal powder-room proclamations.
An evening of mayhem and misadventure ensues after Doc Franklin goes missing, leaving Lizzie beside herself with worry.
The show runs from January 30 to February 1. Tickets are now on sale at libertytheater.org or at the theater’s box office on Tuesday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.
The theater is hosting a special Valentine’s Day event on Saturday, February 14. A free showing of the classic film “Roman Holiday” (1953) starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck will begin at 7 p.m.
To add to the romance, there will be flowers from Paige’s Floral, Champagne, and gelato, as well as the theater’s regular concessions for purchase. More details, including how to reserve your spot for this romantic evening, will be posted on libertytheater.org.
Upcoming Movies: “Hamnet” February 6 – 10, “Solo Mio” February 13, 15, and 17, and “Roman Holiday” (1953) one day only on February 14. Movie schedule is subject to change.
