DAYTON – “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” is the last chapter of one of television and film’s most enduring period dramas, with five seasons and three movies. The Crawley family, staff, and the grand house are entering the 1930s and must navigate how to embrace the future. The familiar cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Joely Richardson, Paul Giamatti, Jim Carter, and Joanne Froggatt.
One Rotten Tomatoes critic wrote, “Fellowes and Curtis have gifted audiences with a trilogy closer that’s worth coming back for as it brings a satisfying closure to the series. It hits about every emotional note a fan could hope for in seeing these characters off to their imagined futures.”
The critics gave “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” a rating of 89%. It is rated PG for suggestive material, smoking, and some thematic elements, and the runtime is 123 minutes.
On September 14, the theater is hosting a Downton Abbey Picnic Tea & Movie Sunday event. The tea begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Liberty Theater annex; entry on the alley side of the theater. Enjoy sweet and savory treats, including finger sandwiches and scones with clotted cream. A tea that would even please Lady Grantham. Tickets are $25 per person. There are only 60 tickets for the event, which includes the Picnic Tea and admission to the “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.” There will be no regular movie-only tickets on the special event day. The movie will run two weeks on the normal schedule, from September 12 to 16 and 19 to 23, excluding September 14.
