WAITSBURG - On their home field, the Waitsburg Cardinals swept a double-header baseball game against Walla Walla Valley Academy on Friday, March 8. The Cardinals took the first game 20-1 and ended the nightcap with a 13-9 win.

After the game, first-year Cardinal coach Joe Greer said, "I was very happy with our competitiveness, impressive batting, and logical base running.  Heck of a way to start off the season."

Cyson Morris led the Cardinals in the first game with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Jarod Hankins hit a triple and four RBIs, and Jasper Morrow hit two doubles. Klint Kuykendall and Jayton Gleason each hit doubles. Isaias Reyes was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals, and Quinn Benavides was the catcher.

Morrow started on the mound in the second game, and Hankins came in as relief. Trace Nesje was the catcher. Reyes led the team with a double and three RBIs, and Jayce Gleason scored a double in the win.

Next, Coach Greer and his team will play Dayton in a double-header on the Cardinal field this Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m.
