WAITSBURG-On Monday, August 28, 2023, Scout Troop 337 convened a Court of Honor at the Lions Club building in Waitsburg. The troop is a joint Cub Scout and BSA Troop with a history in Waitsburg. After years without scouting, Troop Committee Chair Sarah Roberts, Cubmaster/Committee member Jon Roberts, Scoutmaster Justin Stegall, and Assistant Scoutmaster Tim Hollingsworth began meeting in March to bring back Troop 337. The first official troop meeting followed in April.

The evening's events on Monday began with the color guard carrying the colors and leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The scouts recited the Scout Oath, voicing their commitment to BSA values.

Jon Roberts gave a presentation describing scouting's focus on character development, personal fitness, citizenship, and leadership skills. The audience learned from Stegall about the many activities planned for the troop.

The Court of Honor allows parents, friends, and family to celebrate the troop as scouts are awarded badges and rank advancement. There are 137 merit badges that cover a wide range of interests across most fields of study. Scouts choose what they want to explore as they discover their passions.

These scouts may not be the first Waitsburg Troop 337, but the girls and boys beginning their scouting journeys this year seem up for the challenges and the fun ahead.
