Sherrie Johnson Land

Sherrie Johnson Land passed away at her home in Walla Walla on March 10, 2023 at age 73.

Sherrie Lee Johnson was born in Spokane, Washington on May 16, 1949 to Betty and Bobbie Lee Johnson, their first child. Her family moved several times during her childhood, as Bob was employed on several of the Snake River dams as an ironworker, before settling in Waitsburg, WA when Sherrie was in eighth grade.

Sherrie graduated from Waitsburg High School in 1967. In her senior year, She was the captain of the cheerleading team, was named "Girl of the Year", was Homecoming Queen, was named "Best All Around", "Best Date", and "Best Leader", was a member of the Girls' League, an officer of the Pep Club, and was a majorette in the marching band. She was loved by everyone, and loved everyone in return. Her fun, friendly outgoing personality was the life of the party wherever she was.

After graduating, Sherrie married high school sweetheart Tom Land and the young couple moved to Pullman while Tom attended WSU and Sherrie worked on campus for the Audio-Visual center.

Sherrie and Tom's daughter Melanie was born in 1973 and son Justin in 1976. The family moved to Redmond, WA in 1978 where Sherrie worked in the restaurant business for many years, and was a long-time and beloved fixture at Angelo's Restaurant in Bellevue, WA, from where she retired. After retirement, Sherrie relocated to Walla Walla to be closer to extended family.

During her lifetime, Sherrie touched the lives of so many people. Those who loved her remember her laugh, her sparkling eyes, the way she made everyone feel important and special, and her love for her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she delighted in all that they did. She loved cheering for the Washington State Cougars, traveling, live music, dancing, daffodils, Cedar Waxwings, and the Blue Angels.

Sherrie is survived by her mother Betty, her brother Robert Johnson, twin sisters Linda Williams and Belinda Garner, sister Angela (Mitzi) Sullivan, daughter Melanie Morrison, son Justin Land, and grandchildren Madilynn Morrison, and Daniel, Christopher, and Carter Land, and friend and former husband, Tom Land. She was preceded in death by her father Bobbie Lee. She will be deeply, dearly and forever missed. Her bright light still shines in all of us.

The family is planning a memorial service for later this spring.
