Julia Leavitt named Program Director for Sherwood Trust

Julia Leavitt has been promoted to Sherwood Trust’s Program Director, announced Sherwood Trust CEO Brian Hunt. Leavitt joined Sherwood Trust in November 2019 as Program Manager.

As Program Director, Leavitt has responsibility for Sherwood Trust’s programming and education, including the Nonprofit and Community Learning Center, the annual Community Leadership program, and ongoing communications that support the Walla Walla Valley’s essential nonprofit sector. Leavitt also works to help support the Trust’s local grantmaking programs.

“Sherwood Trust is a learning organization,” said Board President Chuck Fulton. “Julia’s promotion to program director supports our growth as we work to support regional nonprofits and the communities they serve.”

Leavitt is a 2009 Whitman graduate. She earned an Early Childhood Education certificate from Walla Walla Community College in 2018. Leavitt is also an experienced community organizer, working as Program Director and Neighborhood Organizer for Commitment to Community in Walla Walla.

“Julia’s local nonprofit work experience gives her a great perspective on learning opportunities and how the Trust can best support a focused and thriving nonprofit sector here,” said Hunt. “She brings a level of passion to her work that is inspiring and is matched by her knowledge and commitment to always be engaged in learning.”

Sherwood Trust is a private, placed-based foundation that supports capacity-building to ensure that everyone in the Walla Walla Valley has a sense of belonging and contributes to a thriving region. Founded in 1991 to continue the legacy of Donald and Virginia Sherwood’s efforts to make the Walla Walla Valley a better place, it has invested more than $32 million to strengthen nonprofits and improve communities here.
