Local massage therapists address overall health

Kahla Harrington and Maura Train- er are both local skilled massage thera- pists unaffiliated with Dayton General Hospital. They are, however, very much a part of integrative care. Many use massage therapy to improve their lives and help with their overall health.

Both Trainer and Harrington offer relaxation massages which are indeed stress relieving, but it is the Swedish Deep tissue massages that many cli- ents find the most beneficial for loos- ening tight muscles to allow for greater mobility.

Kahla Harrington

Harrington has been a massage therapist for seven years, trained at NW Academy for Healing arts, and has been voted Best Massage Therapist two years in a row by the Walla Walla Union Bul- letin Reader's Poll. She works from her home on Johnson Hollow Road. In the tranquil space of her studio, clients can experience Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release Massage, something that Harrington is well-known for, along with cupping, and even a special foot sugar scrub. Harrington finds that cupping is especially helpful for releasing the tissue faster and the release holds longer between sessions.

With each client presenting with unique body issues, Harrington finds it crucial to continue learning new techniques in order to broaden her therapy offerings and find what works best for each client. As a young mom to two toddlers, she finds the freedom of be- ing a private business owner allows her to control her work schedule and accommodate her clients varied schedules as well.

She can be reached at 206-650-2410 to schedule appointments or to learn more about her massage therapy techniques.

Maura Trainer

Trainer found her way into the healing art of massage therapy after major life changes, including divorce and alcoholism which caused her life to veer off course. That course corrected with some great advice from her AA sponsor along with some self-work and life reflection. Her sponsor encouraged her to attend Brenneke School of Massage and after 1000 hours of training she found herself on a completely new but clear and clean path.

Being able to share that relatable, self-healing story, along with provid- ing healing massage therapy to others is a current that runs throughout her practice. Stepping into her studio is a calming and serene feeling. Positive af- firmations hang on the walls; a reminder to everyone how important self-care is to overall health.

Trainor does energy work known as Reiki, which is a gentle touch therapy that encourages the client to become more in tune with their own body's healing energy. It is stress reducing and very therapeutic, not only on a physical level, but on a spiritual level as well. Trainor also does Swedish Deep Tissue and Myofascial Massages, tailoring sessions to meet client needs for nurturing and healing.

Trainor can be reached at 509-520- 2611 and works from a studio located in the Main Street Salon.
