Waitsburg School Board Update

 


May 17, 2018

Secondary Principal’s Report:

-Students are finishing Smarter Balanced testing.

-Youth and Government students traveled to Olympia with Kathy Carpenter and Heather Baker, May 3-8. Waitsburg’s team was voted Most Outstanding Delegation.

-FFA members traveled to Pullman May 10-12 for the State FFA Convention.

-Graduation is June 1 at 8 p.m.

-Eighth grade promotion is June 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Athletic Director’s Report:

-Spring football will be starting soon.

-Football and volleyball schedules are available on request.

Elementary Principal’s Report:

-Summit 21 attendees gave a presentation to staff.

-The elementary school is refining the emergency drills process.

-The elementary students are working on expectations. They had an expectations assembly on May 4-5 and have been learning “Cardinal Rules” behavior protocol.

Superintendent’s Report:

-Teaching vacancies include: K-12 music teacher, Middle School English/Language Arts and Social Studies, and Third Grade teacher.

-Superintendent Mishra gave a WASA conference update.

- Every Student Succeeds Act Update: Waitsburg Elementary is no longer a Priority School. Preston Hall is a Targeted School for Students with Disabilities. Waitsburg High School has no designation.

Old Business:

-Enrollment: Enrollment for May was 277 students with 269.49 FTE.

Combine Advisory Committee Update:

-Ann Adams was recommended as high school cross country coach. Five athletes will be required to have a program.

-The combine recommends suspending the soccer program for at least one year due to low turnout.

-Recommend Johnny Watts as head baseball coach and Blaine Bell as assistant coach.

-Recommend Shane Robbins as head softball coach and Josh Wilson as assistant softball coach.

-Committee would like to discuss creating a DW athletic director position with a stipend of approximately $21,000 - $24,000.

Food Services Provision 2:

-The school board approved implementation of Provision 2 which will provide free breakfasts to all students for 2018-19.

K-12 Master Schedule:

-The board approved a master class schedule for middle and high school.

New Business:

-Lisa Brouwer of ESD 123 provided an update on the ECEAP preschool program.

Personnel:

-Accepted resignations of: Lynnsey Bailey (Middle School English-Language Arts/Social Studies). Marne Henderson (Third Grade), Brad Green (Knowledge Bowl Advisor), Lori Bartlow (Middle School Athletic Director and High School Supervisor).

-Approved DW Coaching Appointments/Hires: Ann Adams (Head Cross Country), Johnny Watts (Head High School Baseball), Blaine Bell (Assistant High School Baseball), Shane Robbins (Head High School Softball), Josh Wilson ( Assistant High School Softball), Angie Potts (Middle School Head Softball), Clayton Strong (Head High School Girls Basketball), Roy Ramirez ( High School Boys Basketball), Tara Brenner (Head High School Volleyball), Lynn Martin (Knowledge Bowl Advisor).
