Fire Destroys Shop and Damages Home

Early Saturday blaze in Waitsburg thought to have started at shop wood stove

A fire raged in a shop on Eighth St. in Waitsburg early Saturday morning. The shop was completely destroyed, and the adjacent home was heavily damaged.

WAITSBURG – Fire destroyed a shop and badly damaged an adjacent home in Waitsburg early Saturday morning. The fire is believed to have originated at the wood stove in the shop.

The home and shop are owned by City of Waitsburg Public Works Director Jim Lynch and his wife Becky.

According to Columbia County Fire District 3 officials, the shop is a total loss, and the house sustained major damage. Walla Walla County Fire Districts 2 and 8 also were called to the scene.

Donations accepted

Monetary donations for the Lynches are being accepted at any Banner Bank branch. Other donations of household items, gift cards, etc., can be dropped off at the home of Ed and Cathy Lambert, at 510 Arnold Lane, in Waitsburg.

A pile of rubble is all that is left of the shop adjacent to the home of Jim and Becky Lynch in Waitsburg. The early Saturday blaze was thought to have started in the shop at the wood stove.
