WAITSBURG – Walt Gobel was elected as the Town Hall Association Board's newest member and Karl Newell and Larry Johson were re-elected to the board during the association's annual meeting on Thurs., Nov. 9.

For the first time in quite some time, there was more interest in the positions than there were openings. Initial vote counts resulted in a run-off between Newell and Allen Huwe, with Huwe saying he would be happy to serve in an unofficial capacity. Jim Walsh retired from the board, but said he would continue to help as needed.

Board President Ron Standring said the board is actively seeking more ideas to make Town Hall more available to the public and are looking for event ideas. A chili cook-off was mentioned as a possibility.

"If someone has something they want to do, that would be a community event, and they would be willing to split the proceeds with the Town Hall Association, they should approach us," Standring said.

The Town Hall Association meets the second Thursday of every month and meetings are open to the public. The board will next meet on Thurs., Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
