WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg 4-H Corral Wranglers and the 4-H Penpals recently held a friendly but competitive food drive last week, bringing in a total of 815 pounds of non-perishables to the Waitsburg Resource Center.

"I took the scale to the Lion's Building to weigh the food, expecting about 80 pounds, and was overwhelmed to see what they had collected," said WRC board chair Pam Conover.

In addition to poundage, the teams received extra points for frequently needed items such as dish soap and toothpaste.

The Penpals, led by Lisa Morrow, won the competition by collecting 490 lbs. of food and receiving 2,472 extra points, for a total of 2,962. The Corral Wranglers, led by Tracy Barron and Amber Pope, brought in 325 lbs. of food and received 826 extra points for a toal of 1151.

"The real winners are our neighbors who will be blessed by the generosity and community-mindedness of these two local 4-H groups," said Conover.
