Dayton Boys Beat Prescott, 44-36

Bulldog road win follows losses to River View, Asotin

PRESCOTT – The Dayton boys' basketball team picked up a win in Prescott Saturday night, beating the Tigers, 44-36.

Zach Waggoner led the way for the Bulldogs with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Ben Kleck had eight points, and Zech Bryan pulled down 12 rebounds.

For the Tigers, Travis Crockett dominated scoring with 25 points. Jose Gonzalez added eight.

"It was a great way to come back after a tough loss on Friday," said Dayton Coach Will Hutchens. "We got a little shaky in the last quarter, but managed to pull through and hit our free throws to hold on."

The Bulldogs took a 21-13 lead into halftime and then held on for the victory. "It's been awhile since the boys have won a league game," Hutchens said, "and to get one on the road makes it even more valuable."

Asotin 77, Dayton 35

DAYTON – The Dayton boys were no match for a powerfull Asotin Panther team, which came into Dayton Friday night and overwhelmed the Bulldogs, 77-35.

The Bulldogs held their own to start the game, trailing Asotin 15-13 after one quarter. But then turnovers got the best of them.

"We stayed right with them through the first minutes of the second quarter, then we started trading turnovers on our end for three-pointers on their end," said Hutchens. "That makes it tough to stay in the game."

For the game, Waggoner had 13 points and eight rebounds. Tanner Bren added eight points. Dayton had 28 turnovers to the Panthers' four.

FINLEY – The Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead here against River View on Dec. 15, but couldn't hang on, losing 51-45.

After one quarter Dayton led, 20-9, but River View held the Bulldogs to four points in the second quarter and came back to tie it at the half at 24 apiece.

"We shot well from the field tonight, but we're still struggling to take care of the ball," Hutchens said. "I liked our effort, especially in the fourth quarter. We were down and had several chances to fold but didn't."

Dayton's junior guard Ben Kleck had his best game of the season so far, scoring 25 points, including knocking down five three-pointers. Cal Martin added eight points and led the Bulldogs in rebounds, with six.

The Bulldogs had 25 turnovers, to 12 for River View.
