Dayton Girls Get Past Liberty

Lady Bulldogs prevail in see-saw game at home against quality opponent

DAYTON – The Dayton girls’ basketball team came away victors Saturday night in a close game against Liberty Spangle, 47-43. The two teams swapped the lead throughout the game, before the Lady Bulldogs pulled it out in the final two minutes.

“We played much better defense than our previous games, and we shot better and took care of the ball,” said Dayton Coach Clayton Strong. “This was definitely a playoff-quality team that we beat.”

Sidney Andrews and Josilyn Fullerton led the scoring with 11 points each, followed by Jenna Phillips with eight. Shayla Currin led her team with six rebounds. Andrews, Fullerton and Phillips each had five. Phillips also had six assists.

Strong said he was pleased with his team’s improvement Saturday. “As coaches, we’ve definitely been able to see that the players are trusting each other more and not trying to force things themselves,” he said.
