Bulldogs Struggle Against Liberty

Dayton boys can’t overcome slow start, fall by 20, 56-36

DAYTON – The Dayton boys’ basketball team couldn’t keep up with Liberty Spangle in the first quarter and then were unable to recover, falling 56-36.

“Their size hurt us,” said Dayton Coach Will Hutchens. “They were able to get it inside, which turned into a lot of easy scoring opportunities from the floor and free throw line.”

Zach Waggoner led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Ben Kleck had eight points, including two three-pointers. Waggoner also had 11 rebounds. Dayton also committed 22 turnovers.

The Bulldogs trailed 17-4 after one quarter and 27-13 at the half.

“Liberty was physically strong and very sound fundamentally,” Hutchens said. “We’re working toward that point. It will take some time, but we’ll get there.”
