School Bonds Fail Across State

WASHINGTON – A Walla Walla Public Schools newsletter states that seven of 10 school construction bonds are failing across the state. The trend is consistent with low approval numbers over the last seven years, according to the report.

Construction bonds require a 60% supermajority in order to pass. Below are the preliminary results, as of Nov. 4, from the Nov. 3 general election.

Sequim School District: $49,300,000 - 57.24% (Failing)

Warden School District: $9,311,000 - 42.93% (Failing)

Lake Quinault School: $7,375,000 - 45.31% (Failing)

Elma School District: $6,900,000 - 51.41% (Failing)

Adna School District: $8,183,000 - 63.52% (Passing)

Puyallup School District: $292,515,000 - 68.26% (Passing)

Liberty School District: $12,900,000 - 55.46% (Failing)

East Valley School District: $52,900,000 - 60.89% (Passing)

Toppenish School: $17,100,000 - 48.37% (Failing)

Zillah School District: $10,500,000 - 40.66% (Failing)

Dayton, Prescott and Waitsburg school districts plan to seek voter support of levies and/or capital improvement bonds in the January 2016 election and have been actively soliciting input from voters to make sure they are responding accurately to community priorities to ensure public approval.
