WALLA WALLA – The Waitsburg-Prescott boys won the Southeast District 9 track championship here on May 13. WP outscored a strong Asotin team, 191-148.

"We had not won it two years in a row and it was a sweet win," said WP track coach Jeff Bartlow. "Kids got all excited about it. Everyone contributed and we will be sending 15 boys and one girl on to the Regionals next Friday in Spokane."

Seniors Kobie Brown and Owen Lanning racked up big points in their events. Brown won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, and Lanning was runner up in each. Lanning had a great day jumping, winning both the long jump and the triple jump. Brown was third in the Long jump.

WP picked up a big win in the 4x100 relay. The team included Resean Crockett, Landon Callas, Joe Leamy and Travis Crockett. The Cardinals got a second place in the 4x400 relay with the team of Tyler Shafer, Brown, Callas and Travis Crockett.

Travis Crockett won the 200 meter race and was second in the 100 meters. Shafer and Tewedros McDowell were second and third, respectively, in the 400 meters.

In the throwing events, Zion Branson was third in the shot put and Brandon Penner was third in discus. Mark Montgomery took fourth place in both of those events.

Other top results for the WP boys included David Just's third place in the high jump and Nicolas Kitselman with a third in the triple jump.

On the girls' side, Emily Adams had a big day, with second place finishes in the 800 and 3200 meter runs and the triple jump. She was also third in the long jump.

WP's tracksters move on to Spokane for the District 7/9 regional meet Friday at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley.
