The Times publisher Ken Graham gave "two fork approval" at a taste test on Monday afternoon.

WAITSBURG – Staff at Waitsburg's Whiskey Creek Sports Bar and Grill tested equipment and honed the menu at a soft opening earlier this week. Grill owner, Dan Cole says the restaurant's grand opening is planned for June 1.

A few lucky guests were fortunate enough to taste "protein sandwiches" on Monday and seafood items on Tuesday. In addition to a massive plate of biscuit and gravy (topped off with a fried egg), Monday's guests taste-tested the Upside Down Southern (grilled chicken, smoked cheddar, maple-flavored aioli, lettuce and tomato) with Sweet Potato Fries and the Smoked Cheddar Steak Sandwich (salsa fresco, smoked cheddar and flank steak). Tuesdays testers were treated to items such as the salmon sandwich, cod, fish & chips and clam chowder.

The crew used the soft opening to break in the equipment and get feedback on menu items. General Manager Gary Bales mentioned favorable reviews of a peanut butter burger, but there was no confirmation that it would become a regular menu item.

With a television screen within eye-shot of every table, the industrial-style inside seating area is ready for guests. Seating will be added to the patio in front of the restaurant as well. Staff will continue to iron out the kinks while they stock the shelves over the next two weeks before welcoming guests on June 1, just in time for summer!
