DAYTON – Monty N. Dunn, the 50-year-old Dayton resident arrested at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 25, will enter a plea this week on a handful of drug-related charges.

Dunn was booked into Columbia County Jail after local deputies and a special team from Walla Walla executed an early morning search warrant at Dunn's residence last week at 721 S. 3rd St. Deputies were acting on information that led them to believe they might find drugs in the home.

"Today's warrant is the result of hard work and dedication from several deputies in the sheriff's office following our goals to be proactive in our pursuit of criminals," said Columbia County Sheriff Rocky Miller.

At approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the Walla Walla Emergency Services Unit, detectives from Walla Walla Police Department and Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office entered the home situated across the street from the Dayton Schools at the intersection with School Bus Street.

Dunn was arrested at the scene. Two other adults and three juveniles were in the residence when law enforcement made initial entry into the home but were released shortly after the warrant was served.

Columbia County Deputy Jeff Jenkins searches the shop at 721 S. 3rd Street.

Hidden among piles of soiled laundry, cast-aside furnishings and trash in the home, the yard and the shop, investigators located and seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia, according to Miller.

The team from Walla Walla brought a drug-sniffing dog to help investigators narrow down their search, but even with the canine assistance, investigators spent more than four hours combing through belongings, cupboards, drawers and other hiding places in the home, the yard and outbuildings.

The Columbia County Prosecutor's Office has charged Dunn with five counts of delivery of methamphetamine. Each count carries the additional penalty associated with selling the meth within 1,000 feet of school grounds. He has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of legend drugs (prescription drugs) without a prescription.

Dunn is currently being held on $125,000 bond pending trial. His arraignment is Wednesday.
