Lizzie Schell

December 14, 1917- January 13, 2015

Lizzie Schell, surrounded by family members, left this world on January 13, 2015. Lizzie was the daughter of John and Elise Stucki, wife of John Schell, mother of Johnnie Schell, Rose Schell Kling, Betty Schell Hitt and Sharon Schell Steinhoff. She was a grandmother of 8, great-grandmother of 12 and great-great grandmother of 5.

Born in Nampa, Idaho on December 14, 1917, she spent her early years in Nampa. She met her husband-to-be, John Schell, in the Nampa area and they were married on February 23, 1937. Their marriage lasted for more than 60 years.

As a young bride, she helped her husband by working on the farm and helping with the chores, even after her children were born. She often related how she had to milk the cows on their wedding night.

Often times, when she was asked the secret of her long-life, she said it was due to her many years of milking cows and hard work. John and Lizzie moved to Dayton in 1967, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Lizzie was a long time member of the LDS church, was a greeter there and was known as a "champion" hugger. She loved to hug everyone. She attended the Dayton Senior Center and enjoyed her time there for many years. She enjoyed playing pool with the guys and gave them a run for their money.

She was loved by many as a caring person and as someone who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Her love of animals was legendary and dozens of stray cats and other animals found their way to her home.

Lizzie loved music and dancing and thrilled all of her grandchildren when she played the harmonica.

She will be missed by all her family and friends, but will be leaving us with many beautiful memories.

A celebration of life will be held at the Fairgrounds in the Youth Bldg. in Dayton, WA. Please join us on Saturday, JAN 24TH, from 1:00 – 4:00pm.
