The Times - Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Dayton - The Dayton Kiwanis Club was recently recognized for their support of students and activities at the Dayton Schools, receiving the district's 2014 Community Leadership Award. Gary and Karen Schroeder accepted the award on behalf of the Kiwanis.

Each year Kiwanis members participate in fund raising projects including hamburger sales at events and Turkey Bingo. During these fundraising events, students from clubs such as Youth and Government or FBLA work side by side with Kiwanis members. Kiwanis members have the opportunity to develop a relationship with students, listen to the student's dreams and aspirations, and share their own life experiences.

Students often visit the club to share experiences at competitions and conferences. Recently, FBLA members shared their experiences from the State Conference, identified members who would be representing the club at the National conference, and provided a demonstration of Parliamentary procedures.
