WAITSBURG - 2013 Waitsburg Celebration Days Queen, Emily Adams, passed the crown to this year's queen, Megan Morrison, in a coronation ceremony that took place at the May 6 Commercial Club meeting at Waitsburg Town Hall. Royalty court advisors Amanda DeRuwe and Joycelin Munden coordinated the ceremony, which was attended by representatives from several area courts.

Commercial Club members, local royalty, and community members enjoyed a dinner catered by Emry and Sandy Kleck of "the Q." Royalty from the Milton-Freewater Pioneer Posse, Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days and the Central Washington Pony Club attended the event.

Dinner was followed by a dessert auction, which raised over $300 for the court, due largely to an ongoing bidding war between Mayor Walt Gobel and Councilmember Karl Newell. Gobel walked away the winner, earning him the dessert of his choosing and tickets to the May 10 WCD Royalty Benefit Night for his table.

Following dinner, Morrison was escorted to the podium by her parents, Sandra and Joe Morrison, and crowned Queen by Adams. Mayor Gobel presented her with a commemorative belt buckle.

Morrison thanked her supporters for allowing her the honor of representing Waitsburg as WCD Queen. Following the ceremony, area royalty joined Morrison and Adams on stage for photos. Morrison's next appearance will be to lead off the WCD parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17.
