Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Dance, Dance, Dance!

DAYTON - Parents, grand- parents, friends and relatives filled the seats and lined the outside isles of the Liberty Theater Saturday afternoon to watch about 30 young dancers perform. The 25-minute show was put on by students of Patti Jo Amerein, who took part in what may have been Dayton’s first-ever dance recital.

Amerein’s dance studio is called “The Studio,” and her students are just completing their spring session of classes.

The Studio has been open for three years. Amerein offers classes in ballet, jazz and tap dancing for kids ages five to 18. She holds adult dance classes in ballet and tap dancing, as well as teaching Pilates. Classes are also available for toddlers three to five in creative movement.

Amerein is assisted by fellow teachers Misha Flem, with ballet, and Jasmine Helm, with creative movement.

“I grew up dancing and doing recitals,” said Amerein. Amerein is a native of Las Vegas, where, as an adult, she performed for many years in production shows.

Before Saturday’s perfor- mance, Amerein said she was unsure how often she will hold dance recitals for her students. After seeing the standing-roomonly crowd last week, she may not wait long for the next one.
