WP Girls Take Two From Dayton

April 25, 2013

PRESCOTT - The WP Tigers made a huge comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning during the first game of a double- header against the Lady Bulldogs, scoring five runs to take a 9-8 walk-off victory. In game two, the Tigers shut out Dayton 7-0.

The Bulldogs held the lead the entire first game, but lost control in the final inning. The Bulldogs scored their first run in the second inning, then batted around the third inning, scoring four more runs. They held steady through the fourth inning and made their final three runs in inning five. The Bulldogs held an 8-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't hold on.

The Tigers scored one run the first inning, two in the third and one in the fifth before rallying to make a surprise comeback, scoring five runs to win the game in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the final score to 9-8.

"I'm really proud that they hung in there until the very end. They didn't give up and were able to keep playing hard and make a comeback," said WP coach Angie Potts.

The Tigers continued to score steadily throughout second game while preventing the Bulldogs from making a single run.

WP hit well, played defensively well and ran the bases well. Jen Nichols pitched a good first game and through the 4th inning of game two when relief pitcher Jaidyn Brown took over and finished out the game successfully.

The Bulldogs played well, but changed their line-up the second game. They had some great hits that were fielded successfully by the WP outfield, preventing runs.

"I'm really proud of how they played," said Potts.

Their Tuesday performance was a big letdown after a dominating performance on Monday, when the Lady Bulldogs took both ends of a double- header from Tri-Cities Prep.

Sam Harting pitched a no-hitter in the first game, striking out 14, as Dayton won 18-0 in the five-inning mercy rule game.

In game two, Lexus Ward gave up only one hit, as the Lady Bulldogs won 17-0, also in five.

The Tigers next play Touchet in Prescott on Thursday, while the Bulldogs take on Touchet Monday.
