Nunsense II: The Second Coming...

January 24, 2013

Sister Mary Robert Anne (Nancy LaBerge), Sister Mary Leo (Kris Takemura) and Mother Superior Mary Regina (Elizabeth Jagelski) in Nunsense II.

Nunsense II, the second coming, opened last weekend at the Liberty Theater in Dayton. This rollicking musical comedy is the sequel to the original Nunsense, that played at the theater last year.

Nunsense II continues this weekend with perfor- mances Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Written by Dan Goggin, the Nunsense musicals tell the story of the Little Sisters of Hoboken, who, in the original musical, put on a stage performance to raise money for the burial of four deceased sisters.

In Nunsense II, the Little Sisters are back - having been bitten by the theater bug - to take to the stage again... this time to thank those who supported them during their first benefit concert.

The Little Sisters of Hoboken are:

Sister Mary Regina (Eliz- abeth Jagelski) is the beloved Mother Superior of the Order. Jagelski is a veteran actress and director at the Liberty Theater, who direct- ed "Annie", the most recent fall musical.

Sister Mary Hubert (Sher- ri Huwe) serves the Order as Mistress of Novices, training new recruits. Huwe is also a veteran of several musicals at the Liberty.

Sister Mary Robert Anne ( Nancy LaBerge), who dropped out of Verna's Ca- shier School, is one of the most popular sisters with New Jersey kids because she speaks their language. LaBerge spent many years singing with the Walla Walla Choral Society and played French horn with the Walla Walla Symphony.

Sister Mary Amnesia (Deb Fortner) arrived at the convent in her habit without a clue to her identity. Fortner has appeared in many of the fall musicals in Dayton, including playing Eulalie McKeknie Shinn in the 2010 production of The Music Man.

Sister Mary Leo (Kris Takemura) took her name from her Grandpa Leo, a notorious Seattle Gangster. Takemura began appearing in dance recitals in Dayton at the tender age of five. She has appeared in numerous productions in Dayton since.

Nunsense II is directed by Bev Startin, who also directed the first Nunsense production and has directed six Variety Shows at the theater.

Other members of the Nunsense II crew include Jim Thorn, piano accom- paniment; Leah Stockton, production stage manager; Roz Edwards, prompter; Joe Huether, lights and sound; Mary Luce, costumes and props; Patti Jo Amerein, choreography; and Tom Jag- elski, spotlights.
