DAYTON - The Columbia County Wellness Project is sponsoring its first Heart and Sole Fun Run here on February 15 at 10 a.m. The five-kilometer run will begin at Flour Mill Park and follow the Touchet River dike path south of Main Street. WAITSBURG - The Dayton girls, basketball team secured the #2 seed in the Southeast District 9 League Tournament this weekend at DeSales in Walla Walla. The lady 'Dogs will face Tri-Cities Prep on Friday at 6 p.m. They will play again on Saturday, against an as yet unknown opponent. The Dayton Girls will advance to the District 7/9 sub-regional tournament the following weekend. February's play showed no resemblance to the lackluster games that racked up three big losses for the Lady Cards the last week of January. DAYTON - The Dayton School Board recently approved a resolution allowing Dayton's football team to play 8-man football in the fall of 2014. The team will play members of the Southeast Washington 1B 8-man league. According to Superintendent Doug Johnson, the move was made because of low turnout in recent years. MEAD - The Bluewood Alpine Race Team (BART) faced harsh conditions at the Youth Team's first competition at Mt. Spokane last weekend, but two skiers claimed one top-five and two top-ten finishes in the Giant Slalom event. Heavy, wet snow and fog made even finding the race site difficult and led to rough course conditions.
