An appreciative crowd crunched through packed snow and couldn’t have agreed more with the Waitsburg School bands and choirs that, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” The Waitsburg Schools’ Christmas...

    the Times|Dec 13, 2018

Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield On a dark midwinter's night in an ancient inn on the river Thames, an extraordinary event takes place. The regulars are telling stories to while away the dark hours, when the door bursts open on a grievously wounded stranger. In his arms is the lifeless body of a small child. Hours later, the girl stirs, takes a breath and returns to life. Is it a miracle? Is it magic? Or can science provide an explanation? These questions have many answers, some of them...

  • M&M Monster Cookies

    Teeny McMunn, the Times|Dec 13, 2018

I am using this recipe this week in honor of someone who passed away, Rosemary Newman. This recipe was handed out at the gathering after the funeral. It touched me because I have kept and used recipes that were passed on from family members who are no longer here. I think it is a compliment to have someone remembered for what they used to make, the tradition of the favorite food you could count on when you visited. When my boys' great grandmother was in her last days, she asked me what I would l...

  • Delicious Pumpkin Bread

    Teeny McMunn, the Times|Dec 6, 2018

I saw this recipe in the Colfax Gazette. She (Judy Gehring) said it originally published in Taste of Home in 1998. What caught my attention was using vanilla pudding "cook and serve" as one of its ingredients. What? I guess it wasn't too unusual as I have a spice cake mix that you can make a pumpkin Bundt cake using instant vanilla pudding. That made more sense. But I was intrigued and wanted to try it. We had the Christmas bazaar on Saturday. This would be a good time bake it. It makes five...
