WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg Junior Livestock Show was held on June 6–7, hosting FFA and 4-H members for two days of jackpot livestock competition, showmanship, and education.
Local youth who participated in the event were Sara Wilson, Rylee Cole, Clay Katsel, Bridger Abel, Flint Abel, Makaelyn Mikesell, Shaunna Hilton, Braxton Bly, Jackson Griffin, James Griffin, Madyson Potter, Harlee Coulston, Tanna Ray, Levi Dean, Maverick Dean, Alayna Dean, Bella Contreras, Stella Pearson, Emerson Underwood, and Haven Henry.
Other exhibitors came from as far away as Winlock, Washington, and Lebanon, Oregon. In total, more than 160 exhibitors took part in the livestock and small animal competitions.
Saturday featured the beef and swine for showmanship, breeding, and market competitions. Sunday showcased goats and sheep
Small-animal exhibitors had a great time on Sunday, showing poultry and rabbits. They also participated in a judging contest to place Oreos, rabbit pelts, and pigeon, duck, and goose eggs.
Sara Wilson placed second in poultry judging, reserve champion in poultry conformation, and the overall grand champion in poultry showmanship.
In addition to the livestock competitions, dozens of Applied Arts entries highlighted the creativity and talents of area youth.
Throughout the weekend, exhibitors and visitors enjoyed complimentary breakfasts and the burgers and hot dogs provided by the Waitsburg Lions Club at the fairground's cook shack.
Support for the show included Bordertown Feed & Supply, Laht Neppur, and The McGregor Company as Species Sponsors Jim and Becky Wilson, and the House Family were Show Sponsors; and Dayton Tractor and Jake and Michelle Long were the Buckle Sponsors.
The annual event celebrated the hard work, dedication, and achievements of young participants while providing an opportunity for the community to come together in support of local agriculture and youth development.
