WAITSBURG - On November 25, the Cardinal's Amazing Shake mini-gauntlet brought a creative twist by introducing a Monopoly Edition theme. Waitsburg students stepped into a life-sized version of the classic board game, navigating stations inspired by the game's properties and elements, designed to test their communication skills, professionalism, confidence, and quick thinking.
Twenty-one community volunteers served as judges at 14 stations, scoring students who were challenged to adapt, problem-solve, and showcase their best selves. The quick-thinking students had to complete each station's task within one minute.
The fourth through eighth-grade students navigated through the Monopoly-themed stations, beginning with "Passing Go," where they introduced themselves to the judges and described their strategy for the event.
Other stations at the November 25 mini gauntlet included "Pennsylvania Avenue," where students spoke about the White House, and "Community Chest," where they described community projects they were involved in. At "Reading Railroad," the challenge was to explain this quote by Dr. Suess' character, The Lorax, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
Scores from the mini gauntlet were added to two previous Amazing Shake "handshake" rounds, and the top 25 students were announced at an assembly on November 26. Those 25 students will attend the statewide Amazing Shake event in Mattawa, Washington, on February 3. The top six Waitsburg students from that event will attend the National Amazing Shake event in Atlanta, Georgia, in March.
The top four scorers are 1st – Julian Gillentine (grade 5), 2nd –Oaklee Adams (grade 6), 3rd – Flynn Richardson (grade 8), 4th – Olivia Long (grade 5)
