Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Waitsburg's NHS Community Projects

WAITSBURG — Waitsburg High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) members have been busy this month organizing a community blood drive and a food drive competition between the primary and secondary students.

Working with the American Red Cross, NHS members Hope Adkins, Sarah Daves, Sara Wilson, Karissa Potts, and Bea Karl assisted at the blood drive on November 13. One single blood donation can help save more than one life. The students thanked the 17 blood donors, including six first-time donors who gave blood. The next blood drive at the school is scheduled for March 12, 2026.

The NHS students organized a food drive competition between students from the elementary and primary school buildings. The NHS advisor Shannon Schreindl said the drive was going well so far.

“The elementary was leading by a small amount last time I checked,” said Schreindl.

The competition ends on November 24, and the food and hygiene items will be delivered to the Waitsburg food bank on November 25. The community can participate by donating items at the secondary school, elementary school, or the Waitsburg Grocery.

“These kids have been working so hard to make a difference in the community with both the blood drive and food drive. They are committed to service, and I am so proud of them,” said Schreindl.
