Kirkland 2019/2020 Saint-Julien Bordeaux

Kirkland 2019/2020 Saint-Julien Bordeaux

Left Bank Bordeaux under $20 is a tough bird to hunt. The Left Bank is home to the handful of great wineries you’ve probably heard of – Mouton, Lafite, Latour, etc. In all of Bordeaux, there are 9995 wineries that are not First Growths. And if you find any of their wines, how do you know if it’s any good? Enter Costco’s Kirkland brand. Not only are the Kirkland wines generally reliably good, but they occasionally turn up real gems. There’s even a blog dedicated entirely to reviewing Kirkland wines. And that writer claims that this is one of the greatest values yet. The 2019 is three quarters Merlot and one quarter Cabernet. The 2020 may or may not be the same. But the holidays are the perfect time to take a flyer on a true Bordeaux. It will be just fine with any hearty roast, be it fowl, beef, or lamb. Will you be able to find this at your favorite Costco? I would bet you will, but if not, you’ll find something worthwhile in a Kirkland red—about $19.
