4H and FFA had their day at Columbia County Fair

Waitsburg 4H
(l-r) Sarah Daves won 4H Reserve Grand Champion, Sheep, and Jessika Lambert won 4H Grand Champion, Sheep, at the Columbia County Fair last weekend. Other Waitsburg 4H winners were Nicolas Vance, 4H Grand Champion, Swine; and Gavin Mikesell, 4H Reserve Grand Champion, Swine.
DAYTON-Waitsburg's FFA and 4H students brought their animals, skills, and competitive edge to the 2023 Columbia County Fair held in Dayton from September 8 though 10.
Both groups did well, earning many Grand Champion and Reserve ribbons to acknowledge their hard work.
FFA advisor Nicole Abel said of the event, "The Columbia County Fair is a great time to connect with the community, friends and family. A small fair where there is not much outside distractions. People can celebrate local agriculture and the people who work hard to bring it here. Everyone comes together to support the youth whether it is through teaching as an FFA advisor, 4H leader, extension agent, board member, parent, or by digging deep to purchase a livestock project. So many volunteers and volunteer hours are put in to make an event like this successful. I really appreciate it."
