Around the Valley: With Karen Huwe Road Trip | Part 1

Sisters at Shoshone Falls. (l-r) Janet, Karen, Joan, Sandra, I set the timer and made it down the steps in less than 10 seconds.

I recently went on a road trip with three of my sisters.  The plan was to see the five National Parks in Utah.  Our trip was well organized on a google spreadsheet.  The spreadsheet listed everything from when we left, the landmarks we would see, the trails we would walk, and the hotels where we would spend the night.

The one thing we did not consider was the space needed to load all our "necessary" stuff.  We planned to take my sister's car but we could see that was not going to work.  So, we transferred everything to our Tahoe.  The mileage would not be as good, but we had plenty of space.

Our first stop, not counting restroom breaks, was in Twin Falls, Idaho.   We stopped to see Shoshone Falls, the Niagara of the West. The falls are 212 feet tall and 900 feet wide.

After viewing the falls, we headed out of the park not realizing that the road was down to one lane due to a fun run event.  We were going up the hill and cars were coming down.  For a few minutes there was a standoff; who would move out of the way first?  Finally, a passenger in the car going into the park got out and moved the cones over so cars could pass by us.

That was the first snag in our adventure.

We continued to our hotel room at the Quality Inn.  It was a nice room with plenty of space for four people.  We played a game of 5 Crowns and called it a night.

The following morning after a continental breakfast we headed to Moab, Utah.

The trip will continue next week...
