Fairground athetic fields discussed at Waitsburg City Council

WAITSBURG—The Waitsburg City Council met for its regular meeting on Wednesday, January 18, at City Hall. Mayor Marty Dunn, City Administrator Randy Hinchliffe, and all council members were in attendance.

After approval of the agenda and the last meeting’s minutes, the Mayor opened public comment.

Stephanie Cole and Katelyn Stahl, representing Touchet Valley Soccer League, and Stephanie Ruffcorn for the Snake River Little League, asked the Council for help with the youth athletic fields at the fairgrounds. Concerns included field conditions, double scheduling, access to restrooms, and lack of responsiveness from city hall.

As a possible solution to the restroom issues, Jim Romine suggested portable toilets, like Porta-Potties, for the soccer and little league athletes to use during the season. The idea was well received by the council members and the public.

The role of Parks and Recs with regard to the fairground athletic fields was discussed.

After public comment, Weller Public Librarian Twila Tate updated the council on the Library’s 2022 activity and financials.

The Council approved Resolution 2023-761, recognizing payroll totals from 2022. Hinchliffe said the City spent less on labor than planned.

Hinchliffe gave the City Clerk Report, which included the fourth-quarter 2022 budget update.

Dunn adjourned the meeting after the Council reports and approval of the bills.
