Best in Show contestents (L-R) Sasha Collins, Akayden Mikesell, Griffen Hinchliffe, Rollin Carpenter, Brayden Vasquez, Landen Henry, Trace Nesje, Makayla Mikesell, Isaac Mahre, and Pilar Diaz Eas competed in Best of Show.

WAITSBURG-The eighth-grade Intro to Ag class held an AKC-style dog show. Instructor Nicole Abel had her students research dog breeds by classifications and characteristics and create a dog that matched AKC standards. Part of the students' research required watching AKC dog shows on YouTube to learn how to properly show their dogs.

The students' AKC dog show took place in the high school gym with the handlers trotting their dogs and demonstrating other maneuvers for the judges. Extra points were given to the handler for dressing in appropriate attire.

The five judges were high school freshmen who participated in the dog show last year. The dogs had to have collars and leashes while showing in one of the six classes; working, sporting, non-sporting, terrier, herding, and toy classifications. The top dogs in each classification competed in the Best in Show event, where Makayla Mikesell and her Siberian husky won took the top prize.
