Rhythm and beat exercises were part of an afternoon rehearsal with Valerie Kinley at the Liberty Theater. This is Kinley's first production in Dayton, and she looks forward to opening night on August 5.

DAYTON-Shere Kan, Mowgli, and Baloo will take center stage at the Liberty Theater this weekend, in Dayton. Missoula Children's Theatre is back with their summer production of "The Jungle Book."

The Missoula Children's Theater (MCT) visits all 50 States, five Canadian Provinces, and 16 different countries. With the exception of 2020, the Missoula Children's Theater has visited Dayton each summer for a week-long production of their choosing for many years. This year, a record-breaking amount of kids turned up to audition for a part, according to MCT Tour Directors Valerie Kinley and Devon Johnson.

"Things are going so well," Kinley said. "The students are excelling- it's only day number two. I worked with a group of kids yesterday, and today, we went over and reviewed the things we worked on. They have grown so much, and put so much personality into their lines!"

It's been a short rehearsal time; the group first got together on Monday, August 1, and have been practicing hard all week. Two shows are being offered to the public on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6. Both shows will begin at 7 p.m.

"This is one of the most fun groups of kids I have gotten to work with so far on this tour," Johnson said. "We only have 20 hours to put on a full-length musical. The fact that they can commit to it all week and give it their all has been a real treat."

Both Johnson and Kinley are excited for opening night, and look forward to watching the actors and actresses showcase their hardwork.

The Liberty Theater is currently recommending that masks be worn while watching a production or show to lessen the chance of COVID-19 spread. Tickets are available online at http://www.libertytheater.org. Pre-purchased tickets are preferred due to limited seating.
