The WP Tigers wrestling team brought home two fourth-place medals from a big regional meet in Royal City on Saturday after reeling in two pins at a smaller meet in Ritzville on Thursday. "I'm happy with the improvements and performance out there," tigers head coach Lanny Adams said. The Royal City meet was among the largest meets in which the WP team has participated so far. Fifteen teams attended from WP, Royal City, Pomeroy, Reardan, Riverview, Wahluke, Davenport, Burbank, St. John Endicott, Brewster, Almira, Othello, Natchez Valley and Wilbur.

January 20, 1972

Rep. Vaughn Hubbard reported from Olympia this week that highway improvement work on SR 124 in Walla Walla County will begin this winter from the McFeely Road to Pettyjohn, with completion slated for the fall of January '72. The project work, which will eliminate two right angle curves west of Prescott, extends from a point on SR 124 about 30 miles east of Pasco.

The Waitsburg Cardinals broke a 10-game losing streak for the Dayton Bulldogs in the first league game for both teams on the 'Dog court last Friday evening. The final score was 57-43. Dayton took a 15-12 lead out of the first quarter against the Cards and were never headed-leading 35-26 at half and 44-38 at the end of the third quarter. Waitsburg managed only two baskets in the final eight minutes, both by Marshall Maib, as the Bulldogs led the march to the foul line caused by miscues of Redbirds fighting for possession in the closing minutes. Dayton had a dozen tries at the line in the last quarter, connecting on 5 of them to keep the game out of reach for the Wait-Hi team.

Lack of a band leader has not daunted the spirits of the Waitsburg High School students who are still interested in band work. Thru the leadership of Parke Enders, a 20 -piece pep band has been organized that performed exceptionally well at the Prescott games both here and at Prescott during the past week. New members of the Grade School Patrol were sworn in Tuesday evening by Patrolman helper. They were Bob Collins, Fred Rankin, Earl Smith, Neil Alexander, Howard Smith, Richard Pettichord, Ramon Perry, Jack Sivley and Wayne Marsh.

The new cabin cruiser airplane ordered by Glen Smith arrived this week and was flown over Waitsburg Wednesday by a pilot from Martin's Flying School with Kenneth Smith as a passenger.

January 20, 1922

Karl Casey, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Casey arrived home last Thursday from Seattle. Karl has just completed a business course and will take charge of the office work in connection with the I. D. Casey and Son's chicken business.

Sleighing parties have been very popular among the young people the past several weeks, although the last two or three nights have been so cold as to take most of the joy out of them.

The Franklin car of Dr. J. V. Steele was considerably damaged as to the running board and fenders on the left side of the car Tuesday when his car and a Dayton car got too close together on the road. Neither car was able to get entirely out of the rut and they sort of side-wiped each other.

Albert Dickinson is aspiring to the Postmastership of this city and is circulating a petition about town of which a large percentage of the businessmen have affixed their names. Albert is all right and will make a good postmaster.

In Walla Walla, Monday, January 18, at Palace Hotel parlors, Thomas Dickison and Miss Minnie Breeze. Both are well known in this city. The Times wishes them happiness.

Miss Cleo Beeler and Miss Minnie Greer are preparing themselves for life diplomas. They are receiving instructions from Miss Christina Beeler who is a capable and thorough scholar, being a graduate of Whitman College and also a fine elocutionist.
