Jacquelin "Jackie" Greta Long Lyons, a longtime resident of Dayton, WA, passed away on December 25, 2018. She was 92.

Jackie was born on March 9, 1926, in Asotin, WA to Maude Ona (Trent) and Robert Bruce Farrish. She was raised in Asotin and graduated from Asotin High School in 1944. Following high school, she married Melvin Long in Clarkston, WA and moved to Dayton, Wash.

The couple purchased their first home on 420 acres on Hogeye Hollow in Dayton. The home had an outhouse and a pitcher pump out the back door. Soon after, Mel installed indoor plumbing. From this marriage, she had three children: Karen, Sharlene, and Stanley.

In 1957, the couple expanded their farm and purchased the McHargue property on Highway 12, where the couple built a beautiful home complete with an in-ground swimming pool. In addition to raising wheat, peas, hay, and cattle, the couple began a trucking operation hauling grain around the area and then as far away as Montana. Jackie quickly learned to drive the "big" trucks and other equipment. Besides cooking for a large harvest crew, she loved being a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, traveling, hosting festive events, and raising her family. Their two granddaughters, LaRhonda and Melissa, came to live with them in 1974 after their daughter, Sharlene, was killed in a tragic car accident. Devastated by their loss, the couple sold the property on Highway 12 and moved to Clarkston, WA, and built a home overlooking the Snake River. After 3 years of traveling back and forth to Dayton, they moved back to Dayton and purchased the Volmer property on the Lower Hogeye. The couple built a new home in 1977 on 4th Street in Dayton and lived there for many years.

She and Mel also enjoyed many years of boating on the Snake River and Coeur d'Alene Lake in Idaho. She was a member of the Hell's Canyon Yacht Club, the Dayton Yacht Club, and the Elks Club. She also served as 4-H leader for her granddaughters, LaRhonda and Melissa. Her and Mel enjoyed entertaining, boating, dancing, traveling, playing pinochle with friends, and caring for their family. Later in life, she traveled the world with her sister, Grace. Her most memorable moment was a cruise that took them through the Panama Canal. She married her second husband, John Lyons in 2003, and moved to Walla Walla where they enjoyed taking long drives in the country, dancing, and watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. She lived the last few years with her granddaughter, LaRhonda.

She was kind, sweet and loved by many. She held a special place in her heart for everyone she met. She had an infectious smile and great sense of humor. She was known as Grandma or Grandma Jackie to most even if not related. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

Jackie is survived by one son, Stanley Long, and six grandchildren: LaRhonda McCauley, Melissa (Chuck) Nodine, Ramona Miles, Donald Miles, April (Mark) Mikota, and Steven Long, and further survived by 11 great grandchildren: Josh Stedman, Zack Davis, Daryl, Dustin, & Kaelee McCauley, Jonathan Mikota, Anthony Parks, Tyler Belbeck, Angalie Miles, Leah Long, Paislee Moore, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and both her husbands; sisters: Dorothy Gordon, Grace Reed, Geraldine Knepper, and Gwendolyn Farrish, and brother Bruce Farrish; daughters: Sharlene Guinn and Karen Miles and great grandson: Cody Snider.

The Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home in Dayton followed by a luncheon at the Fairgrounds in Dayton. Memorials may be made to Christian Aid Center in Walla Walla or charity of choice through the funeral home.
