WAITSURG – While team members change from year to year, the Waitsburg High School Knowledge Bowl has been a familiar presence at the State Knowledge Bowl meet in Arlington, Wash. each year in March. This year's Team 1 took first place at the Southeast Washington Regional Knowledge Bowl Tournament held in Waitsburg on Feb. 21 to once again qualify for the State tournament.

This year's Team 1 members include: Kevin Murphy, Chris Philbrook, Leena Baker, Cade Branson, Seamus House and Bradley Sandau. Baker, Murphy and Branson were members of Waitsburg's 2017 team that brought home a third-place state trophy last year.

Waitsburg High math and band teacher Brad Green, who will retire at the end of this school year, has coached Waitsburg's Knowledge Bowl team for 21 years. He described last year's win as the "best finish in WHS Knowledge Bowl history," because WHS was the top public school winner, being beat out by two private schools. He's hoping for a repeat, or better, this year.

We have smart, motivated players who want to compete in Arlington" Green said.

Waitsburg will travel to Arlington High School for the State competition on March 17.
