It may be September, but there is plenty of good weather left to get in a last minute camping trip and Alyssa Ravasio has come up with a creative way to make that a little easier, and possibly more interesting. Ravasio founded Hipcamp to solve the problem of popular camp sites filling up too quickly, leaving campers with nowhere to go.

The Hipcamp CEO founded the company in San Franciso, Calif in 2013. Hipcamp creats new campsites by unlocking access to private lands such as nature preserves, farms, and ranches, giving people a totally new way to camp, even if it's at the last minute.

Hipcamp is working toward national expansion and now has many sites in Oregon and Washington. Not only can campers reserve camp spots, but landowners can sign up on the site to become hosts and share their lands with campers.

"Hipcamp has been expanding its availability throughout Washington, with Yakima and other neighboring cities on the radar to help landowners cash in on the solar eclipse while preserving their land," Ravasio told The Times in an email interview.

"Washington is a gorgeous state with beautiful private lands like nature preserves, farms, and ranches to explore.  Landowners in the path of totality have countless acres of prime camping land-but no way to offer it to campers. Hipcamp is providing a platform for owners to put their land up to allow campers to camp on and enjoy the solar eclipse," she added.

The Hipcamp website lists campsites, both private and public, by the location the user is interested in camping. Pictures, descriptions, and reviews help users make informed decisions. Some sites even provide unique experiences such as harvesting crops, petting baby farm animals or accommodations in a tent, yurt, treehouse, tiny home, or a glamping tent.

Hipcamp recently unlocked nearly 800 new private campsites for the solar eclipse and offers 10,000 private campsites nationwide, with more added every month, according to Ravasio.

"Hipcamp's mission is to get more people outside and we know that the nature loving people of the Walla Walla area are an ideal community for this. As we unlock access to more and more beautiful private lands for people to play on, we hope to increase access to nature and make the outdoors an even bigger part of the local community.
