Lady Bulldogs Hope for Return to State in Softball

Seven starters return to a young team that's still mostly underclassmen

Saturday the Dayton softball team competed in the Waitsburg Jamboree, facing Waitsburg and Touchet. Because the jamboree was more of a practice scrimmage, no official stats were kept. But the Lady 'Dogs were dominant over the Cards and the Indians. Savannah McFarland's pitching was strong and Dayton's batting strong. Overall Coach Terry Robins was very pleased with his team's performance Saturday. DAYTON – The Dayton High School softball team is looking to repeat a trip to the state tournament this spring. Dayton lost their starting catcher and first basemen from the 2016 season, but is fielding seven of last year's starting lineup.

This year, 16 athletes have turned out for the Lady Bulldogs. Overall the Bulldogs will be fielding a young team with just two seniors, Savannah McFarland and Mia Becker, and two juniors, Megan Robins and Hannah Becker. There will be no eighth-grade players this year due to higher enrollment for the Dayton school district.
